JSPS研究員として佐山研究室に在籍されていたLaurence Hawkerさんが、2025年12月1日～2026年2月2日の任期を無事に終えられました。LaurenceさんはCO2排出シナリオSSPに沿った全球規模の人口予測プロジェクトFuturePopの共同研究代表者を務めており、今回は日本を対象とした人口予測の高精度化に関する研究に取り組まれました。

任期終了となりましたが、研究室に寂しさはありません。というのも、Laurenceさんは2026年3月に別の会議で再び防災研究所へいらっしゃるからです。ですので、「ちょっとおでかけになる」だけのような感覚で送り出しました。

3月の再会を今から楽しみにしております。それまで、しばしのお別れです。

Dr. Laurence Hawker has successfully completed his tenure as a JSPS Fellow, which ran from December 1, 2025, to February 2, 2026. He is a Co-PI of FuturePop (global future population projections along SSP scenarios) and tried improving the product in Japan.

While his current term has ended, there is no sense of sadness in the lab. It feels more like he is just stepping out for a short break. This is because Laurence will revisit DPRI in early March 2026 for another international meeting.

We look forward to seeing him again very soon. Until then, “bye for now!”
